XENOM Rulebook

2026 Season — Version 1.4

1. Concept

XENOM is the Decathlon of Fitness.

It is a standardized sporting competition designed to measure complete human physical capacity across three domains: metabolic conditioning, gymnastics, and weightlifting. Each athlete completes a battery of ten tests performed under identical global standards.

Results are converted into a single scoring index, producing a total score that represents an athlete's overall physical capability. This score allows athletes to compare performance across:

  • Divisions
  • Age Groups
  • Events
  • Competitions
  • Seasons

The highest total Elite Performance Index Score (EPI) determines the winner.

2. Elite Performance Index

The Elite Performance Index (EPI) is the scoring system that underpins all XENOM competition. It is an absolute, standardized measure of physical performance — an athlete's EPI score reflects their actual output, not their ranking relative to competitors on the day.

Each athlete's EPI is the sum of points earned across all ten XENOM events. The maximum theoretical score per event is unbounded, but scoring tables have been calibrated so that a specialist CrossFit® athlete performing at elite level in a given event scores 1,000 points. A complete competition therefore, targets a perfect score in the region of 10,000 points.

The EPI is the same formula used in the Olympic Decathlon since 1984, adapted for the movements and demands of competitive fitness. It produces one of the most respected and enduring scoring systems in all of sport.

2.1 The Scoring Formula

Each XENOM event is scored using the following formula:

Points = A × (P − B) ^ C
For time-based events: Points = A × (B − P) ^ C

Each variable is defined as follows:

AThe scaling coefficient. Sets the steepness of the scoring curve. Once the zero-point threshold (B) and the 1,000-point benchmark are established, A is calculated automatically.
PThe athlete's performance in the event: total repetitions completed, kilograms lifted, or time recorded.
BThe zero-point threshold. The minimum performance required to score any points. For AMRAP events, this is zero reps; for Event 005 (Ski/Run), this is 40:00.
CThe progressivity exponent. Determines how the scoring curve rewards better performances. See Section 2.2.

For time-based events, B and P are switched in the formula because a lower time represents a better performance — so the athlete's time (P) is subtracted from the time threshold (B) rather than the other way around.

2.2 The C Value

The C value is the progressivity exponent — the element of the formula that determines how generously the scoring curve rewards performances above the baseline.

  • A C value of 1.0 produces a perfectly linear curve: every additional repetition or kilogram is worth the same number of points regardless of the level at which it is achieved.
  • A C value above 1.0 produces a progressive curve: points become increasingly valuable as performance improves. The higher the C value, the more the scoring rewards elite-level output relative to average output.

2.3 Scoring Principles

The EPI tables are governed by the following principles:

  • The tables apply to all levels of performance, from a single repetition or minimum load through to the highest recorded outputs in each event.
  • The 1,000-point benchmark in each event is set at the level of an Elite CrossFit® specialist athlete performing at their ceiling in that event.
  • All tables are progressive. C values are set above 1.0, meaning higher performances are rewarded proportionally more than lower ones. Where an event increases in difficulty part-way through, the C value increases accordingly.
  • No single-event specialist can compensate for weak performances across the remaining events through one exceptional score. The tables are calibrated to prevent this.
  • Men and women compete on separate tables. The 1,000-point benchmarks are calibrated to reflect equivalent levels of athletic output across genders.
  • Scores are comparable across events within a division. Equivalent athletic output in different events produces equivalent point totals.
  • Five events use identical scoring tables across all divisions. The five events that vary by division are calibrated so that equivalent athletic output produces equivalent EPI scores regardless of which divisional variation is completed.
  • The tables are designed to remain stable over time. Any amendment follows the process set out in Section 2.5.

2.4 Tiebreak Procedures

If two or more athletes/pairs record the same total EPI at the conclusion of competition, the following procedure is applied in sequence:

  1. Their performances are compared head-to-head across all ten events. The athlete/pair who has more event wins (higher points in that event) is awarded the higher overall place.
  2. If still tied, the athlete/pair with the highest single event score ranks higher.
  3. If the tie persists, the second best single event score is compared, and that process continues until the tie is broken.

Note: The first step does not apply when three or more athletes/pairs are tied.

2.5 EPI Amendments

XENOM reserves the right to amend the EPI scoring tables and formula. Any such amendment will be made only where there is a clear sporting rationale and where the integrity of the scoring system is best served by the change.

Full scoring tables for each event and division are published at xenom.global/epi.

3. Conditions of Participation

To compete in a XENOM event, athletes must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • agree to the XENOM Terms and Conditions
  • accept the XENOM Anti-Doping Policy
  • comply with all judging and safety requirements

Athletes compete at their own risk and must ensure they are medically fit to participate. Athletes must attend the athlete check-in prior to the competition and provide a valid ID.

Xenom reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or terminate services and/or participation at its sole discretion.

4. Registration

Athletes may only register through the official XENOM platform. Registration is tied to each athlete's unique Athlete ID and is non-transferable.

5.1 Individual Age Groups

Within all Individual divisions except Elite, athletes are categorized by the following age groups. Age is determined as at the first day of the competition at which the athlete competes.

18–24 · 25–29 · 30–34 · 35–39 · 40–44 · 45–49 · 50–54 · 55–59 · 60–64 · 65–69 · 70+

5.2 Pairs Age Groups

Within all Pairs divisions except Elite, the age group is determined by the average age of both athletes on the first day of the event at which they compete. The average is calculated by summing both athletes' ages and dividing by two, with any fraction rounded down to the nearest whole number.

Example: Athlete A is 34 years old and Athlete B is 45 years old. Their average age is 39, placing them in the 35–39 age group.

Pairs use the same age groups as Individual, applied to the pair's average age:

18–24Average age 18–24

6. Elite Division

Entry Pathways

Entry into the Elite category is determined by one of the following pathways:

  • Previous scores achieved in XENOM competition
  • Ranking on the Rogue Invitational Points System
  • Semifinal placement in the CrossFit Games Season
  • XENOM Sport Discretion

Entry Process

Athletes self-select the Elite division at registration. Athletes are notified of their successful entry into the Elite category by the XENOM sport team.

XENOM reserves the absolute right to extend invitations into the Elite category at any time and at its own discretion.

Competing in the Elite division at any competition during the 2026 Season renders an athlete ineligible for the EPI Record Reward in the Rx and Compete divisions for the remainder of that season.

7. Prize Structure

XENOM operates two prize options for the 2026 Season: the EPI World Record Bonus and the EPI Record Reward.

7.1 EPI World Record Bonus

The EPI World Record Bonus rewards Elite athletes who break the current EPI World Record in their division at an official XENOM competition.

How It Works

  • Each Elite division maintains a live EPI World Record.
  • The XENOM Dallas competition establishes the inaugural World Records. The highest EPI score recorded in each Elite division at XENOM Dallas competition becomes that division's World Record, and the bonus is paid immediately to that athlete or pair.
  • At all subsequent XENOM competitions, if an athlete's EPI score exceeds the standing World Record for their division, they are awarded the EPI World Record Bonus for that division and the record is updated.
  • If a World Record is not broken at XENOM competitions, the bonus for that division rolls over and increases by the rollover amount, accumulating to the next event.
  • The bonus resets to the subsequent XENOM competition base amount after a record is broken.
  • Current World Records and live bonus amounts are published and updated at xenom.global/worldrecords following each event.
  • The Bonus Pools reset at the beginning of each season.

Prize Money Amounts

DivisionXENOM DallasFuture CompetitionsRollover (No Break)
Male Individual$25,000$10,000+$5,000
Female Individual$25,000$10,000+$5,000
Male Pairs$12,500$5,000+$2,500
Female Pairs$12,500$5,000+$2,500
Mixed Pairs$12,500$5,000+$2,500

Ties at XENOM Dallas

If two or more athletes record identical EPI scores in the same Elite division at the XENOM Dallas competition, the tiebreaker protocol referenced in Section 2.4 will be applied.

Multiple Breaks at the Same Competition

Where multiple athletes exceed the standing World Record in the same division at the same competition, the bonus is paid once to the athlete who achieves the highest EPI score. That score becomes the new World Record.

Pairs Record Bonus

The Pairs World Record Bonus is paid to the team captain of the pair as a combined award. It is the pair's responsibility to agree on any internal split. XENOM does not adjudicate disputes between partners over bonus allocation.

7.2 EPI Record Reward — Rx & Compete Divisions

Athletes competing in the Rx or Compete divisions who surpass the current EPI division record will receive a free entry to the next available XENOM competition of their choice.

Eligibility

  • Available to Rx and Compete division athletes only.
  • An athlete who competes in the Elite division at any official XENOM competition during the 2026 Season and beyond is not eligible for this reward from that point forward for the remainder of the season, regardless of the division they subsequently compete in.
  • An athlete who competes in the RX division is not eligible for Compete division rewards in subsequent events.
  • Prior Record Rewards already issued before an athlete entered the Elite division are not affected.
  • The reward is non-transferable, has no cash value, and may not be exchanged, sold, or applied retroactively.
  • Only one free entry is awarded per record break per division per event.

Free entry rewards are issued by the XENOM sport team within 14 days of the event at which the record was broken.

8. Age Group Champions

During the 2026 Season, any completed EPI score achieved in an official XENOM competition in the Elite, RX and Compete divisions is eligible to earn the athlete or athletes the title of Xenom {Division} Champion in their respective age groups.

E.g. XENOM RX Champion 2026 Male 18-24

Championship status is confirmed at the conclusion of the 2026 Season, which shall be the last day of the calendar year (i.e. December 31, 2026).

Age Group Champion titles are awarded across all Rx divisions and age groups as defined in Section 5.

9. Competition Format

XENOM competitions run a standardized format and event flow. Athletes always complete the workouts in the same order as others in their respective division.

Arenas

  • Day 1: The competition is split into 3 Arenas (Arena 1 - 3).
  • Day 2: The competition is split into 4 Arenas (Arena 1 - 4).

Heat Assignments

Athletes will receive their heat times and arena allocations during mandatory athlete check-in. XENOM runs to strict heat times. XENOM reserves the right to change the competition schedule at any time.

  • It is the athlete's sole responsibility to be in the athlete staging area at their assigned time.
  • Athletes must report to the Arena Start Tunnel at least one heat prior to the scheduled start of their event. Failure to report on time will result in forfeiture of the athlete's opportunity to compete in that event.

10. Athlete Equipment, Attire, and Competition Floor Items

10.1 General Principles

Athletes are responsible for competing only in approved attire and with approved personal equipment. If an athlete is unsure whether an item is permitted or if the item is not addressed in the Rulebook, the athlete must request approval from XENOM event staff before entering the competition floor.

Personal attire and equipment may be used to improve safety or comfort, provided they do not create a competitive advantage, interfere with a judge's ability to evaluate movement standards, or reduce the required range of motion for any movement.

10.2 Approved Personal Attire and Supportive Equipment

Athletes must wear sport footwear while competing. Slippers, socks without shoes, and open-toed shoes are not permitted. Athletes may only bring one pair of shoes onto the competition floor per event.

Specifications: Shoes may not be altered from their original manufactured state to increase sole height, may not contain more than one rigid embedded plate or blade, and no part of the underside or sole may exceed 5 cm / 2 inches in height.

Weightlifting belts, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist straps, hand protection, watches, and heart-rate monitors are permitted.

Parameters:

  • Weightlifting belts must be made primarily of a single, non-stretch material, may not exceed 13 cm / 5 inches in width or 13 mm / ½ inch in thickness, and only one belt may be worn during an event.
  • Knee and elbow sleeves must be continuous, single-ply sleeves made of neoprene or synthetic rubber, may not exceed 7 mm / ¼ inch in thickness or 30 cm / 12 inches in length, and may not include straps, Velcro, drawstrings, padding, holes, or any other feature or method of wear that provides additional support or rebound.
  • Wrist wraps may not exceed 1 metre / 40 inches in length or 8 cm / 3¼ inches in width, and any sleeves, Velcro patches, or securing tabs must be incorporated within those measurements.

Gymnastics grips, gloves, and tape are permitted only where allowed by event. Gripping surfaces may not be tacky or sticky. Tape worn on the fingers or thumbs may not protrude beyond the fingertips.

Limitations: Gymnastics grips may not contain a dowel, may not be sewn into a fold, and, when fastened to the wrist and fully extended, may not extend beyond the athlete's fingertips; grips are permitted only for Event 006 and Event 010.

10.3 Restricted or Prohibited Equipment

Knee wraps, elbow wraps, lifting straps, lifting hooks, supportive suits, power briefs, or other garments designed to provide artificial support or rebound are not permitted.

Chalk is permitted on the body and attire. Other adhesive substances including, but not limited to, resin, rosin, sandpaper, tacky, liquid chalk, liquid adhesives, waxes, or similar products are prohibited. Oils, creams, powders, lubricants, or similar substances may not be used on the body or attire, if it may come in contact with any competition equipment. The use of any form of adhesive or lubricant on footwear is prohibited.

Phones, cameras, tablets, tripods, headphones, and other electronic devices are not permitted on the competition floor. Food, water bottles, towels, spare clothing not actively worn, signs, banners, branded promotional materials, or other spectator items are also prohibited. If there is a medical device that needs to be used during competition, it must be approved by the XENOM sport team prior to the competition.

10.4 Outside Material Assistance

Once an athlete enters the competition floor, they may not receive outside material assistance from spectators, coaches, or other athletes, including water, food, towels, tape, chalk, gloves, or other equipment.

10.5 Apparel Content

Apparel displaying profanity, hate symbols, or offensive imagery is not permitted on the competition floor.

10.6 Inspection and Enforcement

XENOM event staff/judges reserve the right to inspect attire and equipment. However, due to logistical constraints, every item may not be inspected in advance. Final responsibility remains with the athlete.

Whether the item created a competitive advantage, and whether the violation occurred before, during, or after the event, violations of this section may result in a warning, points penalty, score adjustment, or disqualification, depending on the severity of the violation.

11. Flow, Scoring, & Movement Standards

Each XENOM event has a detailed flow, scoring, and movement standards document available on the Official XENOM website.

Athletes are required to familiarize themselves with the competition standards prior to the event. Lack of awareness of the flow, scoring, and movement standards does not constitute grounds for appeal.

12. Judging

  • Each Arena will have a Head Judge assigned.
  • Each athlete will have a judge assigned.
  • Judging decisions made on the floor are final.
  • Judges will assign athletes scores at the end of each event. The athlete must observe and acknowledge this score via e-signature or physical signature. Failure to acknowledge the score will result in a 0 score.

Abnormal Movement Rule

XENOM adheres to the uncommon movement clause. Any non-standard movement that is understood to be used to undermine the intended stimulus of a test, and which is not addressed in the Movement Standards, is subject to the decision of the judge on the floor.

13. Anti-Doping Policy

XENOM adheres to the most up-to-date Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

All athletes competing in a XENOM competition acknowledge and accept that their participation is subject to WADA rules and regulations.

An athlete may be tested for prohibited substances at any time. A positive test result may result in, but is not limited to, disqualification from all XENOM competitions.

14. Code of Conduct

All athletes and spectators at XENOM competitions must adhere to the Code of Conduct. This can be found on the Official XENOM website.

The principles of the Code of Conduct are understood to reflect:

  • Honesty and virtuosity in competition
  • Respect for the rules of competition and those judges executing those rules
  • Respect for fellow athletes
  • An avoidance of behaviours that may bring the sport into disrepute

15. Frequently Asked Questions

EPI World Record Bonus

How is the first World Record set at Dallas?

XENOM Dallas establishes all inaugural World Records. The highest EPI score recorded in each Elite division across all heats at XENOM Dallas becomes that division's World Record. The XENOM Dallas bonus is paid immediately to the athlete or pair who achieves it.

What if two athletes tie for the highest score or break the record at XENOM Dallas?

If there is a tie, tiebreakers procedures in Section 2.4 will apply.

What if multiple athletes break the record at the same competition?

If there is a tie, tiebreakers procedures in Section 2.4 will apply.

Can the same athlete win the record bonus more than once in a season?

Yes. There is no restriction on multiple wins by the same athlete across a season.

How much is the bonus if a record has not been broken for several events?

The bonus accumulates by the rollover amount at each event where the record is not broken. For Male and Female Individuals: the base is $10,000 from Event 2 onwards, increasing by $5,000 for each successive event without a break. For Male and Female Pairs: the base is $5,000, increasing by $2,500 per rollover. The current live bonus for each division is always published on the Official XENOM website.

Is there a cap on how high the rollover can accumulate?

There is no cap. The bonus accumulates indefinitely until the record is broken. The current live bonus for each division is always published on the Official XENOM website.

For the Pairs Division, is the prize money paid per athlete or per pair?

Per pair. The prize money is a single combined payment to the team captain. How it is divided between the two athletes is entirely a matter between the two athletes. XENOM does not adjudicate any dispute over the internal split.

What happens if a record-breaking performance is later disqualified?

The record is voided and reverts to the previous standing record. Any prize money paid in respect of that performance is repayable to XENOM in full. The rollover amount at the next event will be recalculated as if the disqualified performance had not occurred.

When exactly is the prize money paid?

XENOM will confirm the details of the prize money payout method on the Official XENOM website. Athletes are required to have completed any required payment or tax documentation before a prize money can be disbursed.

EPI Record Reward — Rx & Compete

If I compete in Elite at XENOM Dallas and then enter Rx at a future XENOM competition, can I still earn a free entry?

No. Competing in the Elite division at any point during the 2026 Season renders you ineligible for the Record Reward for the remainder of the season, regardless of which division you subsequently compete in.

Can I use the free entry at any future competition?

Yes. The free entry is redeemable at any official XENOM competition of the athlete's choice in the season following the award, subject to availability. It cannot be transferred to another athlete or exchanged for cash, or applied retroactively.

What if the record is broken by multiple Rx athletes at the same event?

Only one free entry is awarded per record break per division per event. Where two or more athletes exceed the standing divisional record at the same event, the free entry is awarded to the athlete who achieves the highest EPI score. If scores are identical, XENOM Sport will follow the tiebreaker procedures of Section 2.4.

Pairs Age Groups

How is a Pair's age group calculated?

By averaging the ages of both athletes on the first day of the event at which they compete. Both ages are summed and divided by two. Any fraction is rounded down to the nearest whole number. The resulting figure determines the age group.

One of our partners has a birthday between two competitions that changes our average age band. Which band do we compete in at each competition?

Age is calculated fresh at the first day of each event independently. If a birthday falls between events and moves your average into a different age group, you will compete in the new age group at the subsequent event. This is recalculated at registration for each competition you enter.

Can we change Pairs partners between competitions?

Yes. There is no requirement to compete with the same partner across multiple competitions. Each Pairs entry is independent. A new partner pairing at a subsequent competition will have their age group recalculated based on the new combination.

General

Can an athlete compete in both Individual and Pairs at the same event?

Yes, subject to the event schedule and heat allocation permitting it. An athlete who competes in both formats at the same event is subject to all rules of both divisions independently. EPI scores from Individual and Pairs are not combined.

Where can I find the current World Records and live bonus amounts?

On the Official XENOM website. Records and bonus amounts are updated following the conclusion of each competition.
